Can we beat it this year?

Put together a team of 2 to 5 people with colleagues or friends, or sign up as an individual. Throughout May, move around the city or between cities in an active and sustainable way. From participant feedback, we know that a large share of those who take part in the challenge continue using sustainable transport even after it ends. The May Challenge also includes the Bike To School initiative.

step 1

1. Health

You’ll boost your physical fitness and mental well-being.

step 2

2. Team

The challenge is all about the team. You’ll get to know your colleagues in a new and better way and enjoy plenty of fun together — for example, when you head out together to one of the T-Shirt events.

step 3

3. Sustainability

You’ll reduce CO₂ emissions, noise and tyre dust, contributing to a better urban environment. By commuting to and from work in a sustainable way, you’ll help nature and the planet.

step 4

4. Data

The travel data you enter into the system during the challenge will help with planning new safe infrastructure.

step 5

5. Companies

Your company will gain a team-building tool and data for ESG reporting. Up to 79% of participants have their entry fee covered by their employer.

How to get started?

Check with your company

You’ll enjoy the challenge most with colleagues. First, check with management to see if they’ll join the event and cover your entry fee (as they do for 79% of participants). Then you can start putting together your dream teams. You can use our company materials to help convince management or colleagues.

Anyone can take part in the challenge, whether in a team or individually — employees, self-employed people, retirees, students or pupils. For the latter group, there’s the Bike To School initiative.

Register

From 1 February, you can register, complete your profile, and either create your own team or join an existing one. You can expect to receive your participant pack at the end of the distribution wave once your entry fee has been paid — or, if your company is covering it, after approval by your company coordinator. You can take part from anywhere in the Czech Republic.

Ride and walk

All through May, commute to and from work by bike, scooter, rollerblades, wheelchair, longboard, or on foot/run. During the challenge, you can freely combine these modes with public transport. For example, you might bike on Monday and Wednesday, walk on Tuesday, run on Thursday, and arrive at work on a longboard on Friday.

Record your journeys

Record your trips in your profile by uploading GPX files — this automatically enters you in the Team Regularity category.

Routes recorded via the STRAVA, Cyclers, and Na kole Prahou mobile apps will be used as a basis for urban transport analysis to help improve cycling infrastructure.

How sustainably do you commute? Compare your company’s or city’s data using the May Challenge data comparator.

Subscribe to the newsletter and win prizes

Participant teams that are subscribed to the Cyklonoviny – Bike to Work newsletter on the day the challenge results are announced, and achieve a regularity rate above 66.6%, will be entered into a prize draw. The prizes are provided by our partners, and winners are announced across multiple categories.

Enjoy the accompanying T-Shirt events

The challenge also includes the Wear Your T-Shirt events. In every participating city, you’ll find special offers or activities that you can take advantage of by showing a T-shirt from this year’s or last year’s edition, or your profile in the To Work by Bike system.

You can enjoy, for example, breakfasts for cyclists, coffee, ice cream, or a snack with your T-shirt, or discounts on products from challenge partners. Information about the  T-Shirt events can be found in the Cities section.

Support sustainable transport

Throughout the registration period, you can choose a charity entry fee to support the activities of the AutoMat association, which has been working for over 20 years to create friendlier and more sustainable cities.
