Jan Coufal is the director of the marketing agency CZECH PROMOTION, an enthusiastic cyclist and also the founder of the Bikero company, which this year joined the partners of the Bike to Work challenge. Her ambition is to become an “Alza on bikes” and she is working hard to make it happen. Honza and I talked about how he rides his bike to work, what all this activity gives him and what should happen for an even bigger boom in urban cycling. And why is it extremely important?
What made you become the general partner of the Bike to Work challenge?
That’s actually quite simple. I myself have been cycling to work for ten years, and regularly. At first it was a bit less, but now I also ride in winter. In short, I ride even when it snows or rains. Well, Bikero is dedicated to cycling and selling cycling goods, and because we want to support the development of cycling transport, it was a natural choice. AutoMat is a club that does an awful lot for cycling and the Bike to Work challenge is fantastic in my opinion. It brings people to try it for a short time and eventually to stay in cycling transport. Which is confirmed by a lot of colleagues. In the time that we as Bikero, but also as CZECH PROMOTION participate – we have collected dozens of people who ride.
And it was the challenge that made you want to ride your bike to work, or did you figure it out yourself?
I figured it out myself. But at the beginning it wasn’t easy. Today I have 16 kilometers to work, but when I started we had offices up the hill above Bertramka, and I had 32 kilometers to work with a crazy conclusion. Which was significantly more challenging than it is today. And I also had 20 to 25 kilos more.
